Historic Natchez Foundation 50th Anniversary: Before and After

Published 3:20 PM Wednesday, July 10, 2024

Laurietta is a Federal-style plantation house just outside Fayette, built circa 1825. It was abandoned and in a state of disrepair when it was purchased in 2006 by Tere and Mac Thomas of New Iberia, Louisiana. The original fireplaces and other parts of the house were stored at the Historic Natchez Foundation after being removed to protect them from theft. The Thomases completed a meticulous three-year restoration, including replicating original decorative finishes. The Historic Natchez Foundation completed the National Register of Historic Places nomination and historic tax credit application for the project. These photos are part of a series of before and after photos that will appear in The Natchez Democrat every Wednesday through 2024 to commemorate the Historic Natchez Foundation’s 50th anniversary.
