‘This is not the time to waver’ – Kentucky Democrats reaffirm support for Biden

WASHINGTON — Nearly two weeks after President Joe Biden’s debate performance shook some Democrats’ confidence in him, lawmakers in Washington sought a solution Tuesday.

In Frankfort, where Democrats are far outnumbered by Republicans, party leaders said they are sticking with Biden.

“This is not the time to waver,” said Kentucky Senate Minority Leader Gerald Neal (D-Louisville). “What you do is rally your troops and put your best foot forward. I mean, he’s got a great track record of accomplishments.”

In the House of Representatives, Frankfort Minority Leader Derrick Graham, Lexington Democratic Caucus Chair Cherlynn Stevenson and Kentucky Black Legislative Caucus Chair George Brown Jr., also of Lexington, indicated their full support for Biden.

This week, Kentucky Democratic Party Chair Colmon Elridge posted online: “I’ve heard from Black and brown people across the country, particularly Black women, who are outraged by the privilege of some who are willing to abandon @JoeBiden, and what that means for the safety and security of our community and democracy itself… Pushing @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris aside is not an option.”
