Marie Bisschop obituary –

Marie (Forte) Bishop, wife of Gordon W. Bishop of Simsbury CT, passed away at home after an extended illness on May 25, 2024. Born November 4, 1934 in Needham, MA, she was the daughter of the late V. James Forte and Natalie ( Carboni) Forte. She and her husband lived in Simsbury for 51 years.

Marie’s deepest joy in life was with her family. A devoted and loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by her daughter Laura (Bishop) Feeney and her husband Dale Feeney of Simsbury, Connecticut, and her son, Rev. Gregory J. Bishop of Chula Vista, CA, and grandchildren Christopher Feeney of Simsbury , Julia Feeney of Columbus, OH, Noah Bishop and Charis Bishop of Chula Vista, CA. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter-in-law, Kennis Furuya Bishop, and sisters Judith (Forte) Boyle and Natalie (Forte) Cavanagh, and is also survived by dearly loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Before moving to Connecticut, Marie worked for several years, starting at Harvard’s Widener and Lamont Libraries in Cambridge, MA, and served as secretary to professors at MIT and Harvard Business School. She greatly enjoyed painting and sketching portraits and landscapes, her many books and day trips in New England.

Friends and family may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, on Tuesday, June 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 942 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a homeless shelter/charity of your choice, or to Grace Covenant Church of Spring Valley, 9140 Akard St. Spring Valley, CA 91977.
