Jackknifed tractor-trailer causing delays on northbound I-95 in Fairfield

A tractor-trailer with a jackknife caused significant traffic delays on northbound I-95 in Fairfield Wednesday morning.

According to police, the crash occurred between exits 19 and 21, closing the right lane.

The Fairfield Fire Department says the driver was not injured, but a 50-gallon diesel tank did rupture. They say there is no danger to the community.

Firefighters deployed brooms, dikes and absorbent pads to limit damage and reduce environmental cleanup, which will be overseen by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The accident caused major backups in both directions as crews cleared the mess.
