Wayne Slocum obituary – Bend, OR

Wayne Slocum Wayne A. Slocum, formerly of Eureka, died Wednesday, February 24, 2010 in Bend, Oregon. He was 71. Mr. Slocum was born on October 6, 1938 in French Camp, California, the son of Ralph and Elsie (Bowen) Slocum. He grew up in Eureka, California, where he lived most of his life. He graduated from Willits High School in 1956. He worked as a machine operator for the Simpson Timber Company in Korbel, California for 26 years and moved to Bend, Oregon after his retirement in 2007. Mr. Slocum was a very outgoing and sociable person who “never met a stranger.” In his spare time he enjoyed body and fender work. He was also a very avid reader and enjoyed casino games. Survivors include his life partner of twenty years, Helen Ivy of Bend, OR; four sons, Floyd Slocum of Portland, OR, Rodney Slocum of Albany, OR, Roger Slocum of Rohnert Park, CA, and Ralph Slocum of Albany, OR; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Mr. Slocum is preceded in death by his daughter, Debra, his parents and two sisters. At his request, no formal services will be held.
